Russell Andrews was born in Huntsville, Texas and is a proud alumnus of Houston’s Ross Sterling High School. Russell began his acting career at The Ensemble Theatre and after the National/International tours of Thomas Meloncon’s The Diary of Black Men, graduated to the city's largest venue, The Alley Theatre. After Russell's critically-acclaimed breakthrough performances as the explosive, yet tragically flawed, horn player, ‘Levee’, in August Wilson's Ma' Rainey's Black Bottom, he moved to New York City where he studied and became a regular face on the regional theatre and Off-Broadway circuit.
Mr. Andrews has performed around the US and across the Atlantic where on the London Stages “intense” and “passionate” were commonly associated with his work. As a Wilson “hired gun,” he originated and received rave reviews as ‘Mister’ in the world premier of King Hedley II and ‘Youngblood’ in Jitney (winner of London’s 2002 Olivier Award).
His move to Los Angeles has added memorable Film credits including The In-Laws (with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks) and The Punisher (with John Travolta and Tom Jane) and TV credits including The Cosby Show, Sports Night, The Nine, Boston Legal, CSI: Miami and Medium.
In 2004, Russell formed StageWalkers Productions and in its short, multi-award winning existence, it has been recognized as one of LA's premiere stage companies. Russell lives in Los Angeles with his wife, writer Katrina Andrews and their two children, Anya and Kai.
